SUV Cars India
The condition of Indian roads, the necessity for a car that accommodates the whole family, the ease of maneuverability on difficult terrains, and the instant hike in status are some of the major reasons for people to be lured into buying SUV cars these days. Looking at this shift in automobile market trends, it is no wonder that so many international as well as national automobile companies are striving to come out with different models of SUVs to meet this rising demand. Already the market has quite a few model options that are making waves in the SUV and crossover segment. Here’s a brief look at one such car.
One of the features of a SUV is its sheer big size. Unfortunately, in our country where traffic is a never-ending problem and the population has made parking spaces scares, especially in big urban towns and metropolitans, this very size works against the segment. This may be one of the reasons why today many favoured SUVs are mid-size or crossovers, while bigger SUVs are more popular in small cities and rural areas. One of the top competitors in crossovers or compact SUVs is the Premier Rio.
First launched in 2009, the Premier Rio was the first compact SUV with a proper SUV silhouette but the dimensions being only slightly bigger than your average B segment hatchback. The company was one of the first to have realized the nerve of the emerging market for compact SUVs in the country. With great success since then, the company launched the Rio Plus at the Auto Expo this year.
The new Rio Plus boasts of a BS IV complaint 1.2 litre petrol engines as opposed to the BS III complaint diesel engine of the older Rio. The new Rio is also updated in terms of styling and looks. With major changes made to the front in regards to headlamps, bumper, chin spoiler, integrated fog lamps, and grille, the car looks more contemporary than ever before. Other changes include things like body coloured bumpers, side claddings, mirror mounted indicators, rear wheel cover, and 15 inch tyres, for a sporty and upbeat look. Even the ground clearance has been tweaked to stand at 200mm, and interiors have been given a good makeover. Premier Rio Plus which is priced higher than normal Rio variants, sports beige interiors and a steering wheel with touch of chrome.
At the present moment, the Premier Rio and its variants are the cheapest SUV cars available in the Indian automobile market, which is its biggest USP at this point. Another appealing aspect is its fuel efficiency. However, there are quite a few compact SUVs waiting to be launched this year by celebrated companies such as Ford, Nissan Renault, Mahindra, etc that may pose competition for Rio later.
